Negotiations Show Progress as Syrian Democratic Council and Syrian Democratic Forces Announce Roadmap

The leadership of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), and the Autonomous Administration (DAANES) convened a tripartite meaning to discuss developments in Syria, progress in achieving a solution to the Syrian conflict, and especially on-going dialogue with Damascus.

The SDF reaffirmed its commitment to resolving any and all issues in Syria through dialogue. SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi also congratulated Ahmed al-Sharaa on assuming the role of Head of the Transitional Government in Damascus.

The statement released after the meeting further stated the importance of including all segments of Syrian society in any process. A series of meetings with local figures and groups will soon be held across North-East Syria, in order to increase the political participation of all social and political groups.

In terms of dialogue with Damascus, the SDF, SDC, and AANES have all continued to stress the importance of decentralization and inclusivity in any future governance of Syria. Achieving a nationwide ceasefire is also a priority.

Progress has been made in the discussions between the two parties, however, disputes remain on the future of the country’s governance, and especially, on the issue of Syria’s future military, and any potential integration of the SDF. The meeting also took place as the Damascus-based government began a “National Dialogue Conference” in the nation’s capital, with the stated aim of creating a unified vision for the country’s future. However, the conference has been criticized by several parties in North-East Syria, including the Democratic Union Party and the Kurdish National Council, for not including Kurdish parties in the conference.
